It works but it is a little tricky to feed back into the housing and the metal tape is prone to launching itself out which can be a little unsettling. It does have sharp edges, so use caution with it. It is marked Germany on the Bakelite, on the tape measure and the steel circle in the center. The Bakelite has scratches but no cracks.
