The wood handles are in very good condition and slide in and out freely

These can with some (unfortunately unnamed) US army nurse items and I was told they were issued to an American nurse, but I cannot verify that story. They look almost unworn. They do show some wear from age and storage. There is some rust on one buckle and some rust specks on the fabric. Some light discoloration and a minor staining.
